Presentation of this Special Edition "DSD in Brazil"

The Workshop on Distributed Software Development (WDDS) is a forum for researchers, students, and practitioners discussing problems and solutions related to Distributed Software Development (DSD) techniques, methods, tools, environments and processes. Therefore, WDDS is a workshop about theoretical fundaments and practical experiences of adopting DSD in academic and industrial projects.

State-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice advances are expected for the exchange of contributions, opinions and debates. Thus, the WDDS has the purpose of generating knowledge and exchanging experiences in DSD. In the context of the workshop, DSD spans organizations, countries, time zones and even continents.

The year 2012 is a special year. It celebrates the 15th anniversary of the first publication about DSD in Brazil. The paper entitled "Software Process Development for Cooperative and Distributed Software Teams" (original in Portuguese entitled "Processo de Desenvolvimento de Software para Equipes de Trabalho Cooperativas e Distribu’das", published in 1997, presented a process based on the SW-CMM model to support distributed software development teams. This is also the year that ICGSE returns to Brazil after its first memorable first edition in the Cost‹o do Santinho Resort, in Florian—polis, in 2006. This year ICGSE will take place in Porto Alegre. Therefore, there is an excellent opportunity to promote a healthy environment for the debate of ideas about DSD research in Brazil among Brazilian researchers and practitioners. Check the proposed activities and dates in the call for papers section for details.

Looking forward for seeing you in Porto Alegre in August!
